Some people associated with the Cheltenham Festival often describe it as the "racehorse Olympics" and trainer Robin Dickin has echoed that sentiment in the build up to the Albert Bartlett Hurdle. Luckily, we haven't had an equine Ben Johnson or a Caster Semenya yet. Sure, in the latter's case, how could we tell? There have been plenty of debates and heated arguments in the run-up to the third round of Kauto Star v Denman Gold Cup battle. The stable-mates have shared the last three Cheltenham showpieces, though Kauto Star is heavily fancied to cement his place alongside Arkle as one of the greatest chasers of all-time with a third Gold Cup to add to his four King George VI wins. Paul Nicholls isn't quite so certain and has been making cases for both horses. "Kauto Star...is naturally gifted, glides along the gallop, travels easily and constantly amazes me...he is better than ever. He is incredible...Denman is such a character, so big and lazy...His great strength is his stamina, but to win any race with him you have to have him incredibly fit." As we've said previously, you can be just as confused, if not more so, when you listen to trainers talking about their horses chances. The fact that Jonjo O'Neill hasn't said much about Bob Hall in the Christie's Foxhunters Chase has caught our attention. Silence is golden and all that. For the sake of pulling a stat that supports our particular selection, of the last ten winners of the race, only three have been 10 or older. That rules out quite a lot of runners in this 3m 2f event sometimes referred to as the amateurs Gold Cup and gives a thumbs up to Bob. Strong favourite Roulez Cool suffered a setback in training recently and a slight question mark remains over the validity of his claims. We could go into greater detail, but we don't want to bore you too much - just be grateful. And thus we have the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual. His son is determined to win the race again with French Opera �€“ a high class chaser taking on a handicap - something the trainer reserves a chuckle for. Given he was third in the race last year and has a 7lb claimer on his back this time round, Henderson is still confident.
